Yankees trade deadline update #2

Well another trade deadline is done and in the books. This was an eventful deadline considering the talent that was available. Almost every team around the league made trades. The Yankees made about 5 trades this deadline. None for any superstars but they did get pieces that will help in the postseason and the future. Let’s get into it.

The Yankees made a move earlier in the week involving the St.Louis Cardinals. The Yankees have the Cardinals Chasen Shreve and Giovani Gallegos for Luke Voit and international signing money. This was an important trade for the Cardinals because they need bullpen depth and both pitchers are ok. The Yankees turned that international money into the #9 international prospect Osiel Rodriquez for $600,000.

The next trade was kind of like the 1st one which included the Seattle Mariners. The Yankees sent another bullpen pitcher Adam Warren for International signing money. Adam Warren has been very steady for the Yankees and came up with the Yankees until he was traded for Starlin Castro and then reacquired in the Chapman trade with the cubs. I’m surprised the Yankees helped out a team that they might be facing in the wildcard game but with all the bullpen surplus it was a reasonable deal.

Now for the biggest deal out of the 3 which was a trade with the Minnesota Twins. The Yankees traded away minor leaguer/major leaguer Tyler Austin and prospect pitcher Luis Rijo for Lance Lynn and cash. Tyler Austin lost his spot on the team once the Yankees acquired Luke Voit who plays 1b. He has been up and down with the Yankees for the past 3 years. People forget he came up the same day as Aaron Judge in 2015. I can’t lie he was a pretty decent fill in while Greg Bird was hurt over the years.

Now for the Yankees part of the trade. Lance Lynn has been decent for the twins this year. He has t had the run support like he did on the Cardinals. So far he has posted a 5-6 record with a 5.10 era but he has a 4.12 era in his last 7 starts. He is gonna come out of the bullpen for the Yankees unless a starter gets hurt. He is really excited about joining the Yankees because he said he grew up watching them when he was a kid.
