Back again for the Offseason Breakdown blog, now with the Boston Celtics. I’ll write about what the Celtics did in the offseason, the teams starting 5, strength and weaknesses, and how I think the Celtics will do this season. Let’s start
Acquisition and Loses:
Celtics resign Marcus Smart to a 4 year $52 million contract
This was a good move by the Celtics to bring back Smart. Smart is one of the best defensive guards in the game so it’s nice to have him coming off the bench for your team.
PG: Kylie Irving
SG: Jaylen Brown
SF: Gordon Hayward
PF: Jayson Tatum
C: Al Horford
Now with Lebron James out of the East and on the Lakers now, the Celtics are a huge favorite to win the Eastern Conference this season. Jayson Tatum had a phenomenal rookie season last year that could have won him the Rookie of the Year if it wasn’t for Ben Simmons playing better. Tatum should continue to do amazing things this season. Also, if Kyrie can stay healthy for the full season and Hayward doesn’t have a freak injury, the Celtics will win the East with ease. It also helps that the Celtics have the best coach in the NBA with Brad Stevens.
When you are one of the best teams in the NBA there is very little weaknesses a team could have. One thing is that Kyrie needs to stay healthy. Kyrie has a bad injury history and it continued into last season. The Celtics need their best player to stay healthy if they want to contend for the championship this season.
Offseason Grade: B+
Prediction: I have the Celtics finishing 1st in the Eastern Conference. Their team is just too good and I say they will make an finals appearance this season as well.
