#5 Oakland Athletics V. #4 New York Yankees
So yesterday we had the first game of the playoffs and it was a fun one. We had good starting pitching, bad managing, and extra innings baseball in which resulted in the Rockies beating the Cubs. But tonight we have the Oakland Athletics going all the way out East to play the New York Yankees in the final wild card game. Now I think this will be the much better game because these teams have way better offenses and worse pitching.
With the Athletics, they decided that they are going to start the game with bullpen pitcher Liam Hendricks, and I think this is a very smart move. Since the Athletics don’t have their ace pitcher Sean Manaea, and their starters haven’t been good all season, the Athletics are choosing the best option to win this one playoff game, but with the Yankees not so much.
The Yankees decided to go out with their ace Luis Severino, and this is not a good move. Since the All-Star Game, Severino is 5-6 with a 5.57 ERA. I think the Yankees should have put J.A. Happ on the mound because hes been the Yankees best starter since the All-Star break. Since Happ has been traded, he is 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA, so obviously he is the better option here, but for some reason Aaron Boone decided against it. And I would hate to bring up what happened last year in the Wild Card game, but I will, where Severino gave up 3 first inning runs to the Twins and didn’t make it out of the first inning. You would hate to see that again, especially to a much better offensive team like the Athletics.
But this game is not about pitching, it will be all about who’s offense will play better. Both teams offenses are stacked with players like Aaron Judge, Mike Stanton, Kris Davis, and Matt Olson. These players are some of the best power hitters in the league, and will show tonight how much Yankee Stadium is a little league park.
And it will be a high scoring game, but with that bring said I have the road team winning another Wild Card game tonight. I think the fact that Luis Severino is starting is going to screw the Yankees tonight. I can see the Athletics offense taking advantage of Severino’s bad play of late and I wouldn’t be shocked if we see the Yankees move to their bullpen early tonight.
PS: What kind of name is the “Lumberjack”. Trash.
