What more can you ask for out of a do or die game. Where do I start. Let’s start with Luis Severino. What a masterful performance from sevy. He went 4 innings giving up 4 walks and 2 hits, while giving up no runs. Boone put his trust in him and he answered.
Now let’s talk about the bullpen. Everyone was excellent tonight. Mvp has to go to Delin Betances. He came in with 2 inners on with nobody out in the 5th inning and retired the Athletics 1-2-3. Then he came out for the 6th and had another 1-2-3 inning. Robertson, Britton, Greene, and Chapman followed. The only blemish by the bullpen was the 2 run homer by Khris Davis off of Britton, but by then the game was already over.
Last but certainly not least the offense. Cutch got it going with his leadoff walk and then shortly there after Judge crushed a 2-1 fastball right down the pipe for a big 2 run homer. The offense was stagnant for 4 innings after that as Truvino was really dealing. I knew we were going to open the floodgates open when the Athletics brought in Fernando Rodney. He gave up 2 hits in a row and set up Blake Treinen for failure. Luke Voit busted the game open with a 2 run triple. That made the score 5-0.
Shortly there after a sac fly by didi, Stanton comes up in the 8th with the score 6-2 and he mashed a 443 foot blast over the foul pole. It’s his first postseason hit and homer in his career.
All in all great game by my Yankees nothing more I could ask for than a beat down on the Bronx.
