2018 NBA Season Preview

So yeah, hand up I fucked up and got really lazy with the NBA Offseason Breakdown blogs. I knew this day was coming so instead of doing nothing, I will give my prediction on whats going to happen in the NBA. I will give you my standing predictions, whos winning the championship, and awards. So lets get into it.

NBA Standings:

Eastern Conference:
1. Boston Celtics
2. Philadelphia 76ers
3. Toronto Rapters
4. Milwaukee Bucks
5. Indiana Pacers
6. Detroit Pistons
7. Miami Heat
8. Cleveland Cavaliers
9. Washington Wizards
10. Charlotte Hornets
11. Chicago Bulls
12. Brooklyn Nets
13. New York Knicks
14. Orlando Magic
15. Atlanta Hawks

So the top 3 in the Eastern Conference will be very competitive this season. The Celtics and Sixers are the main teams being talked about, but the Raptors could be a problem. With the new coaching, and more importantly Kawhi Leonard, the Raptors can be a really scary team. But my sleeper team for the East is the Pistons. With Blake Griffin getting his first full season with the Pistons and new coach Dwane Casey, the Pistons can make some noise in this season.

Western Conference:
1. Golden State Warriors
2. Houston Rockets
3. Oklahoma City Thunder
4. New Orleans Pelicans
5. Portland Trailblazers
6. San Antonio Spurs
7. Los Angeles Lakers
8. Denver Nuggets
9. Utah Jazz
10. Minnesota Timberwolves
11. Los Angeles Clippers
12. Memphis Grizzlies
13. Phoenix Suns
14. Dallas Mavericks
15. Sacramento Kings

Now we are onto the West, and obviously I have the Warriors #1 just because its the Warriors, but there can still be that chance that the Rockets can get it again. But I want to talk about the bottom of the top 8 teams. With the Lakers, Nuggets, Jazz, and Timberwolves, all 4 of those teams can make playoffs. I have the Lakers in because of this really good unknown player. Tell me if you heard of him, it Lebron James. Hes pretty good and I think he will help the Lakers make the playoffs.

I have the Nuggets in because they are a very underrated team. With Jokic, Millsap, Harris, and Isaiah Thomas coming off the bench, this can be a pretty good team. And fuck the T-Wolves. The whole Jimmy Butler situation is why they are missing the playoffs. Also I have the Kings being the worse team in the NBA this season.

Now I’m going to make a bold prediction and say the Warriors are winning the Finals this season. I know crazy take, but I think they are the best team in the NBA. Now my prediction for who they are versing is the Celtics. Obviously the Celtics are the best team in the East right now, but they just don’t have what it takes to beat the Warriors this season. Especially when the Warriors keep adding players like Demarcus Cousins to the team. Warriors in six.

NBA Awards:

MVP: Anthony Davis

This will finally be the season that AD wins MVP. If he can stay healthy and can keep the Pelicans good, he will make a really strong case for MVP. My runner up is Giannis. Giannis will have a really good season, but it just isn’t his time to win MVP.

Rookie of the Year: Luka Doncic

Now this one hurts because I am a very big Suns supporter, but I think Doncic will have the best chances at winning MVP. Doncic will be the main option on this crappy Mavericks team, so his numbers are going to look very good. Now I have Kevin Know being the runner up, and that might sound biased, but he will have a really good season. As long as he can get the start over Lance Thomas.

Coach of the Year: Brad Stevens

This will finally be the season Brad Stevens gets his much deserved Coach of the Year. As a Butler fan, I love Stevens so I thought he should have won it the last two years. But shit happens and this will be the season he wins it. Of course I think Greg Popovich is still the best coach in the NBA, but once hes gone that will go to Stevens.

Defensive Player of the Year: Rudy Gorbet

Now there really isn’t a doubt for me in this award. Gorbet only played 56 games last season and won the award over Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid, so as long as he can have a repeat season and can stay healthy he will win the award.

Sixth Man of the Year: Dennis Schroder

Predicting this award is always hard because you never know who this award is going to until mid-season. But I think Schroder has a strong chance of winning this award. Schroder is a very underrated player and he played very good with the Hawks last season. I can see him averging 14-16 PPG off the bench as he really is the Thunder’s only scoring option off the bench.

Most Improved Player: Myles Turner

Now this is another hard award to pick, but I am picking Myles Turner here. I really think Tuner can be a top 5 center in the NBA one day, but he needs to make the right strives. Turner had a down season last year, but I think he will be able to get his numbers back up this season.
