2019 MLB Offseason Breakdown: Chicago White Sox

Here is my MLB 2019 Offseason Breakdown Blog. This time it is on the Chicago White Sox and I will talk about who the White Sox acquired and lost, their starting lineup and pitching rotation and my prediction for them this season. Let’s get into the blog.

Offseason Acquisitions and Loses:
White Sox received Yonder Alonso from the Indians for a minor league player

So this is a good trade because Yonder Alonso is a good player, but the only reason they made this trade was to pursue Manny Machado into coming to the White Sox. Obviously, it didn’t work, but like I said Alonso is a good player. He hit 23 home runs and 83 RBI’s for the season last year.
Kelvin Herrera signs a 2 year $18 million contract
This is a very good signing for the Sox because Herrera is a very good relief pitcher. Herrera has an average ERA of 2.82 and in his 8 year MLB career, he only had an ERA above 3.00 2 times. Pretty good.

Starting Lineup:
C: Welington Castillo
1B: Jose Abreu
2B: Yolmer Sanchez
3B: Yoan Moncada
SS: Tim Anderson
LF: Daniel Palka
CF: Adam Engel
RF: Jon Jay
DH: Yonder Alonso

Starting Rotation:
1. Carlos Rondon
2. Reynaldo Lopez
3. Ivan Nova
4. Lucas Giolito
5. Dylan Covey

Offseason Grade: F

Prediction:
The White Sox really failed this offseason. If you base your whole offseason on one star player and don’t get him, you failed for this season. And that’s what the White Sox did. They were the favorites to get Manny Machado and somehow let him slip to the Padres. The White Sox won’t be doing anything this season and if they weren’t in the worst division in baseball, they would be in dead last, but I have them finishing in third place this season.
