Here is my MLB 2019 Offseason Breakdown Blog. This time it is on the San Diego Padres and I will talk about who the Padres acquired and lost, their starting lineup and pitching rotation and my prediction for them this season. Let’s get into the blog.
Offseason Acquisitions and Loses:
Manny Machado signs a 10 year $300 million contract
Machado signed the second biggest contract as a free agent this offseason and it was a shock. Everyone thought Machado would sign with either the Yankees or White Sox, but he went the boring route with the Padres and it fits him perfectly. Machado doesn’t care what the media says about him and since its San Diego no one will care what he will do.
Ian Kinsler signs a 2 year $8 million contract
Padres bring in one of the best defensive second basemen in the MLB and get him for a cheap price. Kinsler was apart of the World Series team last year, but he didn’t hit as well as the Red Sox would have hoped he would. The Padres are just waiting to call up Fernando Tatis Jr. and when that happens, Kinsler will get less and less playing time.

Offseason Grade: A
The Padres got the second biggest player in free agency and the Padres should get some eyes on them it’s just they won’t make the playoffs yet. The Padres need to improve their pitching a lot. The thing is the Padres have a very very good minor league system. They have 7 pitchers that are in the top 100 prospects in the MLB. Given time the Padres will be a powerhouse in the MLB. The Padres will finish the season in 3rd place in the West this season.
