2019 MLB Offseason Breakdown: St. Louis Cardinals

Here is my MLB 2019 Offseason Breakdown Blog. This time it is on the St. Louis Cardinals and I will talk about who the Cardinals acquired and lost, their starting lineup and pitching rotation and my prediction for them this season. Let’s get into the blog.

Offseason Acquisitions and Loses:
Cardinals trade Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, and Andy Young to the Diamondbacks for Paul Goldschmidt

Cardinals made one of the biggest moves this offseason when they traded for one of, if not the best, first baseman in the MLB. Goldschmidt is one of the best hitters in the MLB with his career batting average of .297 and 209 career home runs. Not to mention he is a really good defensive player winning 3 Gold Gloves. Also, it’s nice they gave him an extension already.
Andrew Miller signs a 2 year $25 million contract
The Cardinals bolster up their bullpen with one of the better relief pitchers in the MLB. Miller did have a down season last year where he only had 34 innings pitched and had a 4.24 ERA. I just expect it to be one bad season for Miller and he will have a much better season this year.

Starting Lineup:
C: Yadier Molina
1B: Paul Goldschmidt
2B: Kolten Wong
3B: Matt Carpenter
SS: Paul DeJong
LF: Marcell Ozuna
CF: Harrison Bader
RF: Dexter Fowler

Starting Rotation:
1. Mike Mikolas
2. Jack Flaherty
3. Dakota Hudson
4. Michael Wacha
5. Adam Wainwright

Offseason Grade: A-

The Cardinals made some major improvements this offseason by trading for Goldschmidt and signing Miller. They set themselves up real nice for this season and they will make the playoffs, its just the NL Central is too stacked right now. They will finish third in the NL Central and be the second the Wild Card team and lose to the Cubs in the Wild Card game.
