SmallDog Dan’s 2019 MLB Prediction

The MLB season is just 1 day away, at least for most of the MLB teams, and like most baseball fans I am hyped. Opening day is just one of those top sport days of the year. The fan feast, the introductions, and everything that makes opening day awesome are why it is so awesome. Now as a Mets fan this is usually the only happy day I have for the season, but for other teams, this won’t be your only time. And in this blog, I will give my predictions on the standings, awards, and most importantly whos going to win it all.

Standings:

NL East
1. Phillies
2. Braves
3. Nationals
4. Mets
5. Marlins

The NL East actually looks like a division that will have multiple teams that will compete for a playoff spot this year. The Braves and Nationals are pretty good teams that will compete, but both teams will miss out of the playoffs. The Phillies are just a superior team with all the moves they made this offseason an will have a nice postseason run.

NL Central
1. Brewers
2. Cubs (WC)
3. Cardinals (WC)
4. Pirates
5. Reds

The NL Central is probably one of the best divisions in baseball this season as they will have 3 teams make the playoffs this year. The Cubs and Cardinals will make the wild card game with the Brewers winning back-to-back division championships. This was a really hard division to predict because all three of these teams can get the #1 spot.

NL West
1. Dodgers
2. Rockies
3. Padres
4. Giants
5. Diamondbacks

With the Diamondbacks losing all of their players this offseason, the Dodgers only true competition will be the Rockies. The Rockies could have a strong chance in winning the division, but I feel like the Dodgers still have it. The Dodgers will be getting Seager back and adding players like Pollock will help this team get into the playoffs.

AL East
1. Red Sox
2. Yankees (WC)
3. Rays
4. Blue Jays
5. Orioles

Another one of the divisions that’s hard to predict just because how good the Yankees and Red Sox are. I think the Red Sox will get the edge because they have a better more consistent hitter and I like their pitching rotation more.

AL Central
1. Indians
2. Twins
3. White Sox
4. Tigers
5. Royals

The Indians had a pretty bad offseason losing key players like Brantley and Miller, but them being in the worst division is why they will finish in 1st. There is no way someone convinces me that the Twins or White Sox are taking this division.

AL West
1. Astros
2. Angels (WC)
3. Athletics
4. Mariners
5. Rangers

Last but not least we have the AL West and the Astros will win their third straight AL West division title. They only got better this offseason signing Brantley, but did regress at starting pitching losing Kuechel and Morton. The Angels tho will make the playoffs once again after missing the playoffs the last 4 seasons. The A’s not having Manaea for the season and Olson for the first month or two hurts.

Awards:

NL MVP: Nolan Arenado
AL MVP: Mike Trout

NL Cy Young: Jacob deGrom (I’m fully aware this is biased)
AL CY Young: Chris Sale

NL Rookie of the Year: Fernando Tatis Jr.
AL Rookie of the Year: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

NL Manager of the Year: Gabe Kapler
AL Manager of the Year: A.J. Hinch

Postseason Prediction:

NL Wild Card:
Cubs defeat Cardinals
AL Wild Card:
Yankees defeat Angels

NLDS:
Phillies defeat Cubs
Dodgers defeat Brewers
ALDS:
Red Sox defeat Yankees
Astros defeat Indians

NLCS:
Phillies defeat Dodgers
ALCS:
Red Sox defeat Astros

World Series:
Red Sox defeat Phillies

There it is. My prediction for the 2019 season has the Red Sox defeating the Phillies in the 2019 World Series. The Red Sox are such a good team and as they have their team altogether, they will take advantage of it and win many more World Series.
